Truly speaking I have never found myself in such a difficult and dilemmatic stance as in this case , while trying to compile this Historic diary, I felt both incapable and hesitating in trying to choose the right and accurate material to this Tragedy despite the wealthy references and other sources at hand , but my humble aim in this diary has reached the conclusion of describing and narrating some of the noble Speeches , Sermons and Advices that were given by Imam Hussain (A.S.) before his Martyrdom on the10th of Muharram 61 AH, the 10th of October 680 AD in the Land of Al taf or Karbala and the vivid ever lasting Lessons and other reactions to his Martyrdom by some Eminent world figures. In a Mutawatir (corroborated) tradition from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny), it is narrated, “Verily, I am leaving behind two precious things (Thaqalayn) among you: the Book of God (the Holy Qur’an) and my kindred (Itra), my household (the Ahlul Bayt), for indeed, the two will never separate until they come back to me by the pond [of al­-Kawthar on Judgment Day].”

The message of the Book, the Holy Qur’an, which the Prophet Muhammad spoke of was carried out, propagated, and upheld by the immaculate Imams (peace be upon them), who are this same Itra whom the Prophet had referred to. For further reading please click HERE.

Call it an act of ignorance or obstinate attachment to the customs of the days of ignorance (Jahiliyya), the retaining of the practice of the pagan Arabs by the neo-Muslim rulers of Medina, to start the Islamic calendar on the 1st of Muharram, over two-and-a-half years after the passing away of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA), appears strange.

They had even conjured up dubious dates to date the Islamic calendar upon, but had to give in to the wise insistence of Imam Ali (AS) that the Islamic calendar should be based on the auspicious migration of the Seal of Prophets from his hometown Mecca to Medina, since this marks the turning point in the history of monotheism. We find many people in the world who claim to hold certain beliefs but do not act upon their professed convictions at all. These people are not steadfast in their beliefs. They claim to belong to a certain religious group, but are not faithful to the basic teachings of the religious sect they profess.

They may not even know much about the fundamental beliefs of their own religious order. They sometimes even go so far as to trample the basic beliefs of their professed religious denomination underfoot due to lack of real faith and piety.  For further reading please click HERE.

It worthies stating that the ideology connects knowledge with faith, as knowledge without faith is like a plant without fruit. Knowledge calls to faith and faith prompts to knowledge. To separate one from the other leads to serious dangers. The martyr Murtaza Mutaharri says:

“Historical practices proved that separating knowledge from faith had resulted in damages which couldn’t be made up, faith must be known in the light of knowledge faith draws for a way from legends in the light of knowledge. By separating knowledge from faith, faith changed into languidness and blind fanaticism, moving Quickly round itself without reaching anywhere. In the place which is empty of science and knowledge the ignorant believers are turned into a tool at the hand of the big hypocrites and this was what we had seen of the examples of “Khawaarij” in the first period of Islam and the following ages in different forms. When a person is involved in his daily affairs and he neglects death and the eternal life, he gets ready for engaging in all sorts of sins and wrong-doing and surrenders to the temptations of Satan and to the whims and desires of his self. The most significant factor which could tame his aggressive self is the remembrance of Death and the instability of this world and the events of the next world.

In fact, if we pay attention, we will see that sooner or later death will overcome a person and he will be put in the grave and his limbs will disintegrate and turn into earth. He will cut his relations with his wealth, children, house and the world as such. He will, pretty soon, be forgotten as if he had not been living. But he is responsible now for what he had done before. Now he wishes he had never been born to take this burden of sins on his shoulders.  For further reading please click HERE.

The historians are not unanimous as to the status of Luqman. Was he a Prophet? When did he live? Nobody knows for sure. Most of the historians are of the belief that Luqman was a ugly-looking man from Nubia (in the Northern part of Sudan between Ethiopia and Egypt), living at the time of the Prophet David. Because of his noble thoughts, God gave him highest degree of wisdom. It is narrated from the Prophet (S) who said, “I rightfully say Luqman was not a Prophet, but he was a thoughtful obedient servant of God. He had strong faith and certainty. He loved God and God loved him, too. That is why he received the asset of wisdom from God. Luqman was sleeping when suddenly heard: ‘O Luqman, do you want to be God’s representative on earth so that you may judge among people’? For further reading please click HERE.

Another aspect of a proper consumption model from the Islamic perspective is that instead of merely seeking to meet the demands of one’s family, the consumer must also think about the deprived and needy people of the society. Otherwise, the feeling of selfishness and arrogance will grow within the individual and the feeling of jealousy and greed will not allow him to use whatever is surplus for the sake of meeting the necessary and vital demands of other members of the society. By helping other people the feelings of dedication and self-sacrifice will emerge contributing to human perfection and leading him to the direction of seeking proximity to God Almighty. The infallible Imams provided the needy persons with their needs in case of having surplus and in addition to this as superior humans and models for the whole humanity in the course of history; they even offered donations at the time of their own needs. There are verses from the holy Qur’an that were revealed concerning Imam Ali (PBUH) and his wife as well as Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein (Peace be upon them) offering lessons of donation and generosity for the sake of God to those who are the followers of the infallible Imams and seek to attain human perfection. Some verses of the holy Qur’an consider gratefulness to God as a requisite for having faith in God and serving Him. Other verses have in different ways encouraged or recommended people to be grateful to God.

The renowned Muslim exegete of the Holy Qur’an, Allame Tabatabaie, has written about the nature of gratefulness or thanksgiving and its types saying that the nature of gratefulness calls on the person to make use of a divine blessing in a way desired by the Creator who has granted such a blessing and also remember and praise God who has granted the blessings and in this way while using these blessings the person will remember the Creator and will not transgress the bounds set by Him.

Therefore, it can be said that optimal and rational use of diving blessings and observing moderation and refraining from wastefulness and extravagance and observing the limits set by God are all the needed instruments for being grateful to God. For further reading please click HERE.
